Week 5 and 6 final project.

Meeting: Light meets Dark.

-Absence and presence of light.
-Positive and negative light.
-Harsh transition in between…….Quick 'meeting'.
-Transparent and semi transparent.
-Idea for the art installation could be a rotating, ever changing, semi transparent shape that has cut outs that the light shines through.
-For a more interactive aspect the room could be filled with mirrors that people can move to change the direction of the light……for parents and children etc.
Why the boat sheds and water front?
-Could generate a lot of foot traffic and people stopping by for a look as people walking along the sea area are normally out for a ''sunday stroll'' and have spare time to enjoy an art installation.
-Needs a waiting area for people about to go inside so they don't loose interest and leave.
-Also this area can have a lot of sun light which could be used to make the installation run. For example an open space in the roof that allows natural light in to pass through the installation.

Inspiration for art installation:

Using a dark room with thin amount of white light makes the installation stand out a lot better then a room that allows natural light in. The use of angles is done  in a simplistic but interesting way and the use of mirrors could also utilize the angles even more.

The use of mirrors and semi transparent glass make the installation stand out but in a way that complements the environment around it using the reflection. The light is used in a very interesting way that could be adapted to suit my meeting of light meets dark.

The overall look of this installation is beautiful and is done in such a simple way. Making the cube orate off different mirrors and using different colored lights could make it more interactive by making the audience able to control them in a simple way.

The installation idea could be adapted to show the roller turning in a timed way that projects shapes like a story onto the wall. I like the use of a semi transparent material as it makes that shapes look less harsh.

This simple cut out design make the light the main feature as it passes through the shapes and onto the simple white floor which acts like a canvas.

The different mirror create an amazing effect that manages to blend into the background as it enhances different aspects. A set up of mirrors could reflect the different angles of light in an interesting way. Could develop this idea more.

The gap in the ceiling make that natural light the focus and it would also change with the different times of day. I could incorporate this idea into the downstairs level of the installation.

Quick sketch ideas:

The light source come from above and shines through onto a mirror sphere that projects the light. Directly under the light box is a circle of mirror with could that add another interesting element and reflects that images with colour.

Outdoor exterior inspiration :

Mirrors or semi reflective exterior would exaggerate the surrounding environment.

This is an interesting layout because it allows a lot of room for natural light to go into the structure.
